The heavy-duty excavator R 980 SME is designed for work in quarries for the extraction of stone and other materials. It is equipped with a massive undercarriage, borrowed from the larger R 9100 mining excavator, and a weighted counterweight. This makes the R 980 SME compatible with particularly large buckets. The special design of the boom and stick of this excavator provides high digging forces.
